Newborn Photography FAQ's
What is posed newborn photography?
Posed newborn photography involves transitioning a newborn into a series of posed newborn positions. In comparison, lifestyle photography is a documentary style of photography. Lifestyle photography documents everyday moments from an observational perspective with minimal instruction. A wrapped or styled prop session involves placing a baby into back laying positions in props. This type of photography is a blend of lifestyle and involves minimal variation in posing.
When should newborn photos be taken
Newborns are best photographed in the first 16 days of life. During a newborn photography session a newborn 16 days and under has limited awareness of being moved and adjusted into posed newborn positions. Apart from being very sleepy and easily settled, babies this new can hold their legs curled to the chest which keeps them modest when being photographed nude.
Are family included?
Of course. Our posed newborn photography sessions include images of siblings and newborn, newborn and mother, newborn and father and immediate family together.
What is the cost of a posed newborn photography session?
Digital collections start at $490 for 15 high resolution digital images with 25 individually hand retouched images to select from. $150 is due on booking, the remaining balance is due on the session date.

- Pre session planning, design and client communication
- Pre session phone consultation
- Newborn session guide and preparation checklist
- High resolution digital images (determined by your choice of package) in both colour and black and white
- The same images in web resolution for sharing on personal social media pages
- A greater number of individually hand edited images to select from in a private online gallery
- Delivery of your chosen selections in a private online gallery
- 3 hour studio session
- Posed newborn portraits
- Portraits of your baby in props
- Family/Sibling/Newborn portraits
- Use of our existing collection of props, prop layers, soft hand felted wool layers, blankets, newborn wraps, hair flowers, bonnets, artificial flowers, backdrops and accessories
- Immunized, insured, registered, experienced, reviewed and rated specialist newborn photographer trained in newborn safety, newborn lighting and newborn skin retouching
- Specialist newborn skin retouching (individual hand removal of blemishes, baby acne, colour correction to over saturated red and purple pigment in newborn skin) and composite editing to remove hands supporting newborns into select posed positions.
- Light natural skin retouching for adults and siblings
Is the session fee an additional charge?
Pricing is inclusive of the $150 session fee payable on booking to secure dates, This is not an additional fee and is subtracted from the balance of your package.
When can I see my images?
Images are individually hand edited by the photographer and presented fully retouched. Processing is up to 20 business days (excluding weekends and public holidays). A link to a private online gallery is sent by email when images are ready to view and select.
What is a print release?
A print release provides the artists permission to reproduce digital images in printed form. A print release does not provide rights to modify images.
When is the best time to book a newborn session
A limited number of posed newborn sessions are scheduled per calendar month. Booking up to 3 months in advance is recommended to secure availability. Two dates are scheduled based on your due date. Dates factor in newborns arriving slightly early to on time and late.
Can I have the RAW images
Many hours are invested into planning, designing, artistically editing and presenting your images. We do not supply RAW unedited images, as is the case with most respected professional photographers.
What should I dress my baby in?
Your newborn will be unclothed for much of the session. Our studio is kept very warm for your baby's comfort. Flowing wraps and careful positioning of legs keep our little clients modest at all times. No outfits are necessary, unless you have a special outfit or family heirloom you'd like included.
Are siblings welcome?
Siblings are welcome for the family segment in the last 30 minutes of the session. This is a perfect amount of time to maintain their enthusiasm and to capture the connection between siblings and family.
Are prints included?
Digital collections include digital images only. Professional high quality printed products are available to purchase separately.
Do you provide in person consultations?
An optional in person print design and gallery presentation consultation is available for small fee. This fee is credited towards any print purchases made on the day at the appointment. A product guide is contained in our newborn session guide forwarded to clients on booking.
What happens at a gallery presentation and design consultation appointment?
Your gallery is presented to you un-watermarked as a slide show on a screen rather than online. On selecting your images, I present your images to you in virtual rooms both individually and in wall clusters to assist you visualize images grouped together and to assist you visualize size. Purchasing decisions and discussions about budget should be discussed privately in advance of the consultation My role is to assist you design how your images will be displayed in your home, not to deliver awkward high pressure sales pitches.
What products do you offer?
We offer fine art print enlargements, personalized boxed sets of fine art prints in acid free mount boards, floating premium metal wall mounts, floating acyrilic wall mounts, traditional framed fine art prints, traditional framed torn edge fine art prints, heirloom albums, fine art canvas stretched over a hardwood frame and budget friendly poly composite canvas stretched over a pine frame.
Can I have a discount?
We are priced competitively at the entry point of the market for a high quality product. 16 hours or more of work is invested in each client and we are unable to offer discounts or negotiate pricing.
